To say ‘I’ve been a long time gettin’ to this here post’ is puttin’ it mildly, y’all. I know, I know!

I’ve been puttin’ some elbow grease into reshaping the ol’ MVK website and it feels like half my life has passed me by in the process. To cut a long story short, startin’ a website from scratch means makin’ a heap of decisions and that ain’t exactly my cup of tea.

But finally (FINALLY!) it’s back in action with plenty of vibrant new content: thrilling new recipes and all sorts of other entertaining tidbits.

And seein’ as we’re smack dab in the middle of August, what better way to celebrate than with a lip-smackin’, juicy blueberry basil pie, still perfect for slicin’, naturally.

If y’all ain’t never thought about tossin’ some basil into your blueberry bakin’, you’re in for one heck of a surprise! It’s like they were made for each other, addin’ an herbaceous twist to one of our favorite desserts worldwide.

Lately, I’ve taken quite a shine to bakin’ pies. It might surprise you but over yonder in Germany pies aren’t really on folks’ radar. (I know… can you believe that?)

Growin up we had cakes, tarts, cookies and all sorts of sweet treats but pies were somethin’ you’d only see in soppy Hollywood movies or British baking shows.

Since settlin’ down in England though, I’ve given pies a fair shake and instantly fell head over heels for this British baked delight.

A little bird told me awhile back to try makin’ the pie crust dough with one them fancy food processors instead of usin’ my good ol’ fork and hands. And who would have guessed… It truly does make all the difference: A sweet blueberry basil filling tucked inside a rich buttery flaky crust – now that’s what I call the perfect summer treat.

  • 350 g flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1½ Tbsp sugar
  • 250 g cold margarine
  • 4-6 Tbsp ice water
  • 900 g blueberries
  • 75 g sugar
  • 4 Tbsp tapioca starch
  • Juice of one lime
  • 1½ tsp cinnamon
  • A generous handful of basil leaves
  • 1 Tbsp soy milk
  • 1 Tbsp brown soft sugar
